Backpack

Backpack for needlepoint shops on Squarespace

Squarespace makes a lovely shop website quickly, which is why so many needlepoint shops start there. The catch is usually the counter. In store sales live in another system, and keeping the two in step is a daily chore. We close that gap and keep the site selling.

Where needlepoint shops on Squarespace get stuck

Squarespace is at its best as a website. For a needlepoint shop, the real work is tying it to the counter and keeping a large catalog of canvases and threads in good order.

A canvas that sells twice in one afternoon

Squarespace tracks stock for what it sells. If your counter runs on a separate register, those sales do not come off your website on their own. A canvas can sell at the counter in the morning and online after lunch.

We connect your register and your Squarespace store so counts move on their own, or build the link when no ready made option fits. Then we reconcile both against the wall so you start from true numbers.

Variants without stock or SKUs

Squarespace products can have variants, which suits mesh sizes. Each variant needs its own stock and SKU to be useful, and canvases added one at a time over the years often skipped both.

We rebuild your canvas listings so every mesh size is a variant with a price, a count and a SKU that matches the register. The designer is recorded on each one.

Threads left off the site entirely

Hundreds of thread colors are a lot to browse on any site. Many Squarespace shops leave threads off altogether, which sends stitchers who need one more card of a color to order somewhere else.

We load threads in a clean, browsable structure, starting with the lines you sell most, so a customer can find a color number and order it in a minute.

Special orders the site cannot see

A special order taken at the counter has no home on a Squarespace site. An online request for a canvas you need to order from the designer needs follow up the site will not do for you.

We keep one tracker for special orders and finishing, covering the counter and the website, with designer, mesh, deposit and dates. Customers hear from you when their canvas arrives.

Tax rules set for one state

Squarespace charges the tax rules you set. Those rules need to match where you are registered, and they need another look once online sales reach more states. Filing returns is a separate job.

We review where your orders ship, keep the rules matched to your registrations and update them when that changes. Sales tax compliance is part of our bookkeeping, with a CPA when you need one.

A newsletter that went quiet

Squarespace has its own email tool, and plenty of shops have a list that has not heard from them in months. New arrivals and trunk show dates go unannounced.

We write and send your email on a calendar, in Squarespace's email tool, Mailchimp or Klaviyo. We answer the replies, ask happy customers for reviews and keep your Google listing current.

Half the picture by designer

Squarespace reports on online sales. A true view of each designer needs in store and online sales together, which neither system shows on its own.

We combine both and send you a monthly report of sales, margin and sell through by designer, so market buying starts from real numbers.

What we connect Squarespace to

Squarespace is your storefront online. We connect it to the counter, the books and the inbox.

  • Your registerSquare, Clover, Lightspeed or another system, on one set of counts with the site.
  • QuickBooksOnline and in store sales reconciled in one set of books.
  • Mailchimp or KlaviyoEmail to everyone who has bought from you, wherever they bought.
  • Google and PinterestGetting found by stitchers searching for a canvas or a shop nearby.

This is your back office operating system. Use only what you need. If you want bookkeeping and email but not the website, that is a plan.

Questions shop owners ask

Do I have to switch away from Squarespace?

No. If Squarespace works for your shop, we work inside it. Most shops need the setup they already have cleaned up and looked after, not replaced.

Can we keep our Squarespace design?

Yes. If customers like the site and it reads well on a phone, we keep the design and fix what is underneath it. We only suggest a rebuild when the site is costing you orders.

Can you move us to another platform if it makes sense?

Yes. If a different register or website would fit your shop better than Squarespace, we will tell you plainly and explain why. If you decide to move, we plan it with you, bring over your products and customers, and check the counts against your shelves before the old system is turned off.

What does it cost?

Every plan is built around the shop, so there is no public price. You only pay for the parts you use. It is month to month, you can pause anytime, and the first 30 days come with a full refund.

Let's get your time back.

Pick a time that works. We'll show you what we would take off your plate first.
